Firefighters work on the roof of a house on Breeze Avenue in Sunset Bay during a Wednesday afternoon fire.
A house at 12822 Breeze Ave. in Sunset Bay suffered heavy damage in a Wednesday afternoon fire.
Reported around 1:20 p.m., the fire cast a pall of smoke over Lake Erie — visible from Eagle Bay on Route 5, about six miles to the west.
Firefighters from the nearby Sunset Bay Department, as well as from the Silver Creek and Forestville departments, were among the first responders. NYSEG and National Fuel were also on the scene.
The first report was of a garage fire, but the blaze spread into part of the house. By 2 p.m., the fire appeared mostly out, but it had charred half the house. Firefighters remained on the roof cleaning out “hot spots” that still spit out smoke. They used the Silver Creek Fire Department’s ladder truck.
There were no apparent injuries.
